He Knows When You Are Sleeping

On Christmas Eve, the legend goes, Santa Claus travels the globe leaving presents for good little boys and girls, under their Christmas trees and in their ornamental fireplace-hung stockings.  Bad children, continues the tradition, do not receive gifts; instead, they get lumps of coal in their stockings. After all, Santa knows all — who’s naughty, who’s nice — and can act accordingly. But it’s a big job, even with an army of North Pole elves at one’s disposal, so in the Alpine regions of central Europe, he enlists help. Krampus is coming to town.

A goat-man creature bound to service by the Devil, Krampus’ origins trace back to Germanic traditions from before the advent of Christianity. Per the myth, Krampus goes from home to home (in some places, along with St. Nick), seeking naughty children. Some get off with a stern warning, but for the truly bad children, you better watch out. Krampus throws these children into his sack (or, in some traditions, into a washtub he drags behind him) and carries the child off, to be made into Christmas dinner.

Been rotten this year? No need to get nervous on Christmas Eve; if you’ve made it that far, you are in the clear. Krampus makes the rounds on the night of December 5th, being the eve of the feast of St. Nicholas. As is customary, many people dress up in Krampus costumes that night (as seen above) and take to the streets that night, going home to home “scaring” children. The custom further suggests giving these false Krampuses a drink (schnapps is recommended) to make them go away. Or just be good, for goodness’ sake. (Source)

Thousands of people live in a Soviet-built city in the middle of the sea!

The city is in the middle of the Caspian Sea. It is the first and largest off shore oil town ever built. It was commissioned by Stalin in 1949. The city is a web of oil platforms and bridges connecting everything. The Oil Rocks has 2,000 oil rigs and 300 kilometers of bridges. The town has 2,500 inhabitants and after 60 years continues their work. They are working to renovate the entire town with the help of the oil money. Oil Rocks has a cultural palace, a lemonade factory, and a green park.

A pair of identical twins got away with a jewel heist because it couldn't be determined which one left DNA at the crime scene.

It was described as an almost perfect crime. In March 2009 identical twins got away with a jewel heist. It was almost perfect, because even though there was DNA evidence, it couldn’t be pinned to either twin specifically.
So, the police were unable to present their case before the court. Both twins denied partaking in the heist and thus it couldn’t be determined which had committed the crime. For any identical twins out there... what have you gotten away with thanks to having a twin?

There are weird similarities between Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy.

  • Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.
  • Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.
  • Both were shot in the back of the head in the presence of their wives.
  • Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.
  • Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
  • Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
  • Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.
  • Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.
  • Lincoln was shot in the Ford Theatre. Kennedy was shot in a Lincoln, made by Ford.
  • Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran
    and hid in a theater.
  • Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

Having sex can reduce a fever because of the sweat produced.

Sex is also a pain reliever, ten times more effective than Valium: immediately before orgasm, levels of the hormone oxytocin rise by five times, determining a huge release of endorphins. These chemicals calm pain, from a minor headache to arthritis or migraines, and with no secondary effects. Migraines also disappear because the pressure in the brain's blood vessels is lowered while we have sex. So now we see that actually, a woman's headache is rather a good reason for having sex, not against it.

Ever wonder what the mystery to the Bermuda Triangle is? It’s not paranormal!

For over fifty years tourists have always been wary of the infamous Bermuda Triangle after dozens of planes and ships have mysteriously disappeared or crashed.
Scientists were initially stumped by the increasingly popular reports of disappearing vehicles, but many have since concluded that a chief cause is methane hydrate bubbles that cause the water to be unsuitable for ships to sail on.
Scientists also emphasize the fact that although the region is infamous, reports are drastically exaggerated and if looked at with other areas of the ocean crash rates are relatively similar.

Apologize on Facebook or Go to Jail

Vent on Facebook today, go to jail tomorrow ... unless you apologize, that is.

Cincinnati-based photographer Mark Byron discovered how what he wrote on Facebook came back to haunt him in an unusual way:

In June 2011, Byron was found guilty of civil domestic violence against his Elizabeth Byron, and the court gave her a temporary protection order.

In November, he posted a nasty note about his wife on his Facebook wall, which read: "If you are an evil, vindictive woman who wants to ruin your husband's life and take your son's father away from him completely -- all you need to do is say you're scared of your husband or domestic partner and they'll take him away!"

"I just went on Facebook to vent," Byron said in a televised interview with WLWT-TV. "I kind of likened it to having a drink with a friend at a bar and telling them about things."

Byron had blocked his wife from seeing his Facebook page, but she still learned about the post and proceeded to file a motion stating that the post violated the protection order, which prohibited her then husband "from causing the plaintiff or the child of the parties to suffer physical and/or mental abuse, harassment, annoyance or bodily injury."

On Jan. 25, magistrate Paul Meyers agreed that Byron had violated the protection order and offered him a choice: go to jail for 60 days and pay a $500 fine, or pay back child support and post an apology, penned by Meyers on his Facebook page for 30 days beginning in mid-February. (Source)
